The Land of the Incas

DSC_0197 Peru. It fits no stereotypes and has so much more to offer than one would think. It isn’t just mountains and ruins folks, Peru is rich with culture, beaches, and the best food I have ever had.

When I went to Peru two years ago, we were ready to learn, as our main destination was Machu Picchu. It is one of the seven ancient wonders of the world, and for good reason. Arriving at the infamous Sungate and seeing the magnificent ruins for the first time is an experience like no other.

You can choose to take a train all the way from the city to the ruins themselves, or you can choose from a variety of hikes that take you through the Andes, leading to the ruins. I have to say, taking the hike through the mountains is something to be proud of and gives the ruins a new meaning and magic that the train ride just can’t recreate.

The food in Peru is a topic all in itself.
A famous Peruvian dish would be the Alpaca, which is a very tender and tasty meat dish that you really can’t get anywhere else. This would definitely be something to order when you’re at a Peruvian restaurant and want to try a very traditional dish. In my opinion, the tastiest dish I had in Peru would be the Lomo. It is a cut of beef that is taken from the neck. It is very prized and expensive, but the taste cannot be beat. If you are really feeling adventurous, try the Guinea Pig! It might sound weird but it is actually a very normal dish in Peru!

CITaste_tallarin            There are countless other things o do in Peru, such as white water rafting, surfing in Lima, or simply shopping the markets of the natives. You can even go for a cannopy walk through thte Amazon rainforest!DSC_0389

The culture and mystery surrounding the lifestyle of the Peruvians is incredible and you will go home with a whole new outlook on life.
